One of the most popular dishes on our menu is by far our succulent Menai Mussels, of course served with plenty of bread to soak up the delicious infused sauce. But what makes this dish such a popular choice?
Well, there’s a reason why ‘moules et frites’ are a feature of so many menus in France. Mussels are a dish, when sourced and cooked correctly are as close to food perfection as it’s possible to get. However, in our view the best mussels don’t come from France,– they come from Wales – or the Menai Strait to be exact.
The strong tidal currents in the Menai Strait provide the perfect conditions for our mussels to flourish, with a steady supply of vital nutrients which create their distinctive flavour. In fact restaurants in London, France, Ireland and Holland buy Menai mussels because of their superior quality.
Our sous chef Nathan spent years working in France where it’s a point of pride to cook ‘moules’ to perfection.oiling the freshest mussels until they open but not over-cooking them; and adding the right combination of ingredients including shallots, butter, garlic, white wine, tarragon and parsley to enhance the mussels’ own distinctive flavour.
